First time trialing a new format of two innings of T20s i.e 40 overs all together (called "Fizz"). People really enjoyed the format and hopefully we will play more of this format. The points from the T20 and the Fizz get added together and a win today would put us at the top of the table - prior to this game we are sharing the lead with NW and LPW. So we needed to bring our A game.
keeping NW to 74 in their first innings was pleasing - Yssa and Kaylee both taking 3 wickets each. We were confident of getting a good lead but some tight bowling meant we were only 5 runs ahead at the end of our 20 overs with our top 4 all scoring in the teens. NW came out well in the 3rd innings but the runs soon dried up with Kaylee getting a further 2 wickets for a 5 wicket bag. But for me the highlight was seeing our 2 young u16 players - Georgetta and Maya with ball in hand Georgetta ended with the figures of 3-2-6 and dismissed 2 Canterbury u19 players , was involved in a run out and took a catch, whilst Maya dismissed NW Maori Schoolgirl rep in her over conceding just 3 runs (she bowled 2 overs in the first innings for just 4 runs 2 and had a catch spilled) then added 6 runs and contributed to a 25 run partnership with top run scorer Kaylee Tavendale with 31 NO. We chased the runs down with 6 overs remaining.
To top it off our co-leaders LPW also lost - so saints is at the top !
