A great day for cricket out at Edgar Macintosh park with weather good for a game for many of the players which was their first taste of cricket.
The clash was between inter club “rivals” (more like team mates as many went to school together) the Raionas’ and spirit teams.
All players got involved having a bat, bowl and a go in the field with many learning a lot in the process. Many players rolled their arms over for the first time and also feeling bat on ball.
The game took a little bit longer then hoped for a first game however this was due to the extra help that was given by coaches and spectators (a special mention to Sarah French for her hard work out umpiring both innings while also coaching on the fly out in the field - a job well done).
The all girls team of the spirits competed with and took it to the raiona team throughout varying parts of the innings however the raiona team where just too strong on the day running out winners 137 to spirits 84. The difference was the hard hitting 4s a few of the raiona team members hit.
Notable mentions from this game where:
Spirit team members:
First wickets taken - Willow Durand, Ruby Creelman, Rea Webber and Chrennize Revela
First 4 hit with the bat - Chrinnize Ravela (2), Maddison Shirley, Rea Webber and Maddison Castle.
Raiona team members:
MVP Award - Moses Dmello (21 runs off 12 balls and 8 runs of 6 balls with 6 dot balls and many run outs)
Outstanding Performance Award - Vihaan Mahajan (first game no worries - 10 runs with the bat and 12 runs with the ball)
Jared Knox-French hit 20 runs off 12 balls with 3 fours and a strike rate of 167.
Fletcher Nolan first time bowling with stats of 6 runs off 2 overs for an economy of 3 rpo
A lot of positives and lesson for both teams to take out of this game and I’m sure both raiona and spirit will grow and develop of as a team throughout the season and we will see some awesome results - WATCH THIS SPACE!
