St Albans BBBBs 183/7 beat OBC 168
We won the first round game against OBC by hitting the winning runs off the last ball, and for a long time OBC looked like taking this one just as close, but eventually fell 15 runs short. We were asked to bat first on a track that proved difficult throughout the day, with the slower bowlers particularly hard to score off. Our batsmen were under extra pressure knowing that injuries had depleted our regular bowling attack. Baz (33) got the innings off to a rapid start, then Gibby and Hampo (23) got the score through to 83-1 off 16 overs. OBC then put the brakes on, with only 100 coming from the remaining 24 overs. Gibby (67) played the vital anchor role. OBC started even quicker, with 26 coming from the first two overs, but we kept taking wickets at critical times. OBC had nine players get into double figures, but only one player got beyond 20. Scott Mason (3-21) off eight overs took vital wickets at the top of the order, while Gibby’s 2-18 off his eight topped off a superb all round performance. Thanks also to Jas and Laurie who filled in, taking important catches and bowling well under pressure.
