Masters Men BBBBs
One-day v Burnside West University at Hagley Nursery 2

by Mark Hampton

St Albans BBBBs 218/5 beat Burnside Robbies 117

Several thousand people turned up to watch cricket at Hagley on Saturday, but the temporary fencing meant they couldn’t get to the nursery ground and had to settle for a day of test cricket instead. Next door, we batted first and made the most of a good pitch and outfield to score 218 from their 40 overs. Gibby (55) and Hampo (43) got them to drinks before both falling shortly afterwards, leaving run scoring in the second half to an excellent knock by Rich (64 no) with good support from G (35).

Robbies lost early wickets in the chase, but it wasn’t until when Andy Mayo departed for 15 with the score at 23/5 that Saints were able to breathe easier. Mayo had taken a liking to our attack earlier in the season when he filled in for the other Burnside team while all the over 50's players were away. Runs lower down the order got Robbies through to 117. Standout bowlers were Eagle (3 for 15), substitute opening fast bowler Jimmy (3 for 18), and of course Scott Mason (8 overs, 5 maidens, 2 for 7). With his last wicket Potty reached 1,300 career wickets for St Albans!
