Social 8 T20 Women
Twenty20 v Lancaster Park Rangers at Polo 6 (a)

by Jodi

SBW's arrived at Polo 6 this week to find huge boundaries along with the arrival of LPW's premier batter, Jene, who spent last season smashing 50* runs every game. Alas, we were not to be disheartened. We brought the boundary in, won the toss and elected to bowl first. This went pretty well, keeping LPW to 42/2 at drinks thanks to Anna and Bondi's (Jo) bowling efforts, and despite the byes that were let through by my own keeping efforts! It was also aided by some outstanding fielding efforts from our stalwart Chris at point and new player Keesha out at square leg. Elrie then came in to bowl, working out which ball was needed to keep Jene to singles. She eventually got her 50 and retired, leaving LPW with mainly new batters in their tail order. Nicole and Elrie then has the super fun job of bowling without trying to take wickets as we didn't want Jene to come back in. This is never an easy feat! Nic couldn't quite handle the batters who were showing her all three stumps and Elrie and Bondi struggled to be terrible fielders, meaning we ended up taking the wickets and Jene came back in. However, she only had just over 1 over to go so it only ended up costing us 1 extra boundary. Park finished with an achievable 106 runs.

Bondi and myself were put in to bat first, seeing out some pretty great bowling from one of the LPW openers. I even managed some actual blocks to get through all 5 of her overs, only to be bowled out by the loopiest, slowest ball there ever was. Bondi held her wicket and started finding the boundary, eventually getting caught for 47. She was supported by some great shots from Tanja, a new addition to our team this year. Anna came in to finish it off with Tanja in the 16th over. This was all aided by the second highest run taker, which was the extras on 32!

POD goes to Bondi with her 47 runs and bowling 2-12 off her 5. Special mention goes to Chris for umpiring all 20 overs, and Keesha for putting her hand up to learn to score at her first ever game for Saints. Shot girls.
