Game 1 of the season started off with the usual disorganisation that the SBW’s are great at. We had miscounted player numbers and had 7 ready to play. Luckily Casey had her gear in the car and could step into the empty slot easily. North West / Southern Districts were a bit of an unknown, but we suspected that it would be a few of the girls from last year’s Canterbury Country team. This was correct, which meant we knew a few and what their strengths and weaknesses were. Bowling first was a good option as we had some new players and it allowed us to get to know them and their skills a bit better early on. The bowling was pretty outstanding by our standards for the first game, keeping the opposition to 71 runs in 20 overs. Fielding left a little to be desired with a few dropped catches, but you’ve gotta have goals!! Although we lost two wicket getting the runs needed, one was an incorrect LBW call by Jodi (Julz actually hit it) and a catch on a no ball that Chris thought didn’t really need to be called! Lessons learned early on! Overall we were happy with the start and are looking forward to facing Heathcote next week as they are coming out of a loss against LPW. We are hoping to have better luck getting the OG trophy back this season.
