Fozzie Bears (5 and 1) v BWU Bushwhackers (2 wins 2 losses and 2 defaults)
Kado was present in full Fozzie attire but not playing for what would be a tough challenge against the Bushwhackers. Big Dog captains in his first game of the season ably supported by his sparring partner The Gentleman J. Kirkpatrick and font of cricket wisdom Rick. Our second game at Barrington Park on a grassy green wicket 110 will be a good score.
The Bushwhackers are good bunch lads with not a player over 25 years of age. They are good for saving 20 runs in the field and turning singles into twos where no other team can. The Fozzie Bears bat first, Big Dog plunders the first over 10 coming from it and makes a quick 18. The run scoring is slow going from then on with Rick again anchoring the innings with a stylish 40 off as many balls. After 17 overs the Fozzies have pushed through to 88 for 5, the pitch has a few gremlins and 110 is looking a stretch. Then comes Fabs and Drapes combining for 40 off the last 18 balls with some superb clean hitting. Both not out Drapes 14, Fabs 32, with Fabs being especially punishing in the last over hitting 6,6,4 off the last 4 balls. The Fozzies have posted a very competitive 128.
In response the Bushwackers made a quick start going at 7 an over without loss after 6 overs. Lambchop coming in at first drop strikes immediately getting the ball to hoop late and finding the outside edge with a sharp catch taken by Arthur deputising at wicket keep. Still the Bushwackers held the ascendency moving through to 61/1 after 9 overs. A caught and bowled from Arthur in the 10th, has the Bushwackers 62/2. Then the turning point in the 11th over. Big Dog fielding at mid wicket moves quickly to his right fielding a crisp shot, turns and throws down the base of the stumps from 30m and Bushwackers are 68 for 3. In the post wicket huddle Rick imparts some firm words of wisdom and the Fozzies are fired up. Drapes now behind the stumps has plenty of chirp and what ensues is a final 9 overs going for only 48. Two more run outs and four catches supported a fine bowling display and the Fozzie's squeezed the Bushwackers for another good win going to 6 and 1. With the ball Lambchop, Suarez, Switchy and Fabs picked up one wicket apiece. Man of the Match Fabs.
