The game was played at the lovely setting of St James Park. The wicket turned out to be better than it looked, though some variable bounce and sideways movement meant batsmen never felt comfortable. Gibb (34) and Hampton (65) played positively and got Saints through to 100 in the 16th over, before Iggo (44) and Hill (37) laid the platform for some late hitting by White (16*) and Flavell (22*). The highlight for Saints though was the welcome return of Dean Read to the team after a long break from cricket. While Reado only made a brief cameo performance at the crease, he showed some of the trademark shots that we hope to see more of in coming weeks! Marist Harewood worked hard in the field and never gave up, with Dinesh bowling effectively at the death. They will be disappointed in their performance with the bat, however, bowled out in the 13th over. Flav starred with ball, taking 5 wickets. He matched Potty’s hat-trick from round 1, then turned it into a double by taking another wicket with his fourth ball, rounding off his player-of-the-day performance.
