Division 2 Superkings
Two-day (day 1) v Old Boys Collegians at Hagley Corner 5

by Raash

The sun was out, and the stage was set for a strong second day of play. With a lead of around 40, Elliot and George walked to push our lead further. Initially, the runs were slow to come by, and all of a sudden the two set batsmen were removed - George caught at midwicket, and Elliot missing one at his stumps. However, Spanners and Musty looked to rebuild - with Spandan getting a few quick boundaries before top-edging to a short fine leg. Musty and Doug came together, with Musty bringing a fantastic 52 from 73. The tail then added a few quick runs to push the lead to 179 meaning their target was 180 from 48 overs.

Potts, consistent as ever looked to unsettle both their left and right-handed opening pair however, the breakthrough didn't come. Spin was brought on in only the fifth over, with George bowling tight lines. Eventually, the pressure went on the batsmen, however, we couldn't hold our chances.

After the break, seam and spin were brought on however, the runs were leaked at a healthy rate before both openers were dismissed in quick succession. What looked like a promising breakthrough turned out not so much as their hard-hitting wicketkeeper took a few big overs before being dismissed by George who had a fantastic second spell. This provided an opening for some quick wickets, however, it wasn't enough as Old Boys won by 4 wickets.

A hard fought game, not the result we wanted but we look to play the Riccs next week and secure our first win of the season.
