Twenty20 v Heathcote Vixens at Centennial 3

by Jodi

This week was our first chance of the season to have crack at taking the OG trophy from Heathcote after two seasons without it. We won the toss and elected to bat first, choosing to back our bowling if we ended up under pressure, as is often the case when playing Heathcote. The wicket was green, soft and gave very little bounce at all. This was tricky to adjust to after only playing on bouncy artificial wickets so far. Bondi and myself opened the batting, seeing out a few opening overs before I got out for 2 to a ball that pitched outside off and turned to take out leg stump! Bondi managed to stay in, picking up some runs here and there and finishing with on 45. She was our only stayer! Everyone got a bat this week with the last wicket falling in the final over. We went into the innings break not feeling at all confident that 91 was a defendable total.

It turns out that it was! Heathcote struggled on the green pitch even more than we did. Anna's bowling took out their best batters early and the rest struggled to make runs, with the highest scorer only making 11. Our catching game was on point too which is an improvement on the last couple of weeks. We had them all out in the 15th over for 48 runs and the excitement was evident on all our faces. Heathcote are our favourite team of ladies to play and finally getting a win over them was pretty great. We will see if that was a fluke or not in a few weeks time when we take them on again.
