St Albans Masters BBBB’s 251/6 (B Hill 110, M Wells 68no, P Flavell 60, D Broom 2/28, B Harkerss 2/42) lost to ECSCC Masters Black 255/1 (M Seaton 126no, D Broom 118no) by 9 wickets.
This weeks fixture saw us host Saint 4B’s at Burwood 3, Saints calling correctly and choosing to bat on a very good looking batsmen friendly wicket.
Saints made a reasonably cautious start and lost 2 quick wickets to be 13/2 at the start of the 6th over. From there and for the rest of the day the bat well and truely dominated. Hill joined Flavell at the crease, Hill looking as controlled as always while Flavell peppered the boundary. Flavell left just prior to drinks for 60 and at the break Saints were 102/3. From there Hill and Wells went to work putting the ball where the fielders were not. Hill brought up his hundred in the 34th over and rarely looked troubled during his innings of 110. A mix of boundaries from Wells (68no) saw Saints get to 251/6 from their 40 overs.
D Broom the best of the Easts bowlers with 2/28 off 7 and the only bowler on the day to go for less that 5 an over.
As we were witness to a few weeks ago almost any score can be chased down at Burwood 3 so while 252 is a fair chase we still felt we were in the game. Seaton and Music started positively,
Tommy chopped on to have us 26/1 after 6 and brought Broom to the crease. Besides a sharp chance dropped at slip off Broom the two were in control most of the way and got us through to drinks without further loss with the score 115/1. After drinks the pair continued on the same way keeping the required rate very much in check the whole way. Both batsmen bringing up hundreds in the chase with the winning runs being hit off the final ball of the 37th over. Seaton finished on 126no and Broom 118no in an unbroken stand of 229 leaving the rest of the top order with 35+ overs of pad rash.
Eagle the only wicket taker for Saints.
Thanks to the Saints lads for the day and the debrief after the match. On a side note the last 2 Masters matches at Burwood 3 has produced almost 1100 runs and 6 centuries!
All the best after the split to those in the top 6 title race and as well as the remaining 9 playing for the plate.
