St Albans BBBBs 148/8 beat Burnside Foxes 123.
An intriguing battle between two evenly matched sides battling on a sub-standard pitch at Nunweek Park. Saints were asked to bat first and struggled to 9/1 after 10 overs, with four of those runs having come from the first ball of the match. Hamish Kember started with five maidens before finishing with 1 for 7 off his 8 overs, and the variable bounce made Gareth Gibson even more challenging than usual as he finished with 3 for 28. Mantis batted through most of the innings for a superb 80, with Hampo (22) and Jimmy (12) the only other batsmen to make it to double figures.
Muzza and Flav picked up two early wickets each, and when Muzza had to limp to the slips cordon with two balls remaining in his fifth over the ball was thrown to Jimmy to complete the over. Three bouncers followed: the first was no-balled for height, the second smashed to the boundary and the third was gloved to the diving left-hand of keeper Iggs who was playing his first game of the seasono. Good spell Jimmy. An early finish was possible with the score at 46/5, but a fight back from Jeff Roy (33) and Mike Wheeler (32) took the score to 102 and within sight of victory. It was Mantis who finally broke the partnership, finishing with 3 for 31. His man-of-the-match performance was the difference between the two sides on the day.
